In our UKAAF webinar on 21 March 2024, we were joined by Philippa Campsie and taken on a fascinating journey of research and discovery.
A chance encounter at a museum in Paris in 2016 led Philippa to cast fresh light on myths and fiction built up over many years about Charles Barbier and Louis Braille, and their respective influences on both the invention and development of the braille system of reading and writing.
Eight years later, we now know far more about the series of events which took place in the 1820s and 1830s, with supporting documents, opening up the part both Barbier and Braille played, alongside the enjoyment and curiosity Philippa has experienced during this time.
The recording and transcript can be found on the UKAAF website, and if you are interested in research, history and what both can bring for us today, do take a look and discover.
