UK Association for Accessible Formats (UKAAF) Because format quality matters AGM Announcement UKAAF (UK Association for Accessible Formats) is the industry association whose mission is to improve the social inclusion of blind and partially sighted people, and others with a print impairment, by promoting quality accessible formats. The third AGM of UKAAF for members is to be held on 22 June 2011 at the Augustana Centre, 30 Thanet Street, London WC1H 9QH, 11am-1pm, followed by workshops open to all 2pm-4pm. Pete Osborne, the chair of UKAAF said: “It is a testament to the hard work of the board of UKAAF, members of the user advisory group and subject groups, that at the forthcoming AGM we will be announcing the forthcoming publication of a selection of essential guidance documents. UKAAF has only existed in its current form for a little over three years, yet we will shortly be offering a range of documents that every service provider or transcription organisation can use to provide a uniformly excellent standard of accessible format materials. I personally believe that this is a remarkable result.” He went on to say: “With the support of our President, Lord Low, and the range of corporate members from service providers that we will have, I truly believe that we will see a time in the not too distant future when we will be lobbying Government to ensure that these standards are adopted as the minimum requirement. This may sound ambitious, but if we can get to this point then the future is very bright for all print-disabled people in the UK.” Contact UKAAF if you have any queries about the AGM or UKAAF, or if you wish to arrange an interview with Pete Osborne, the Chair, or with Dr Sarah Morley Wilkins, the Vice Chair. (For reference our contact details are on the final page of this release.) All Full Members of UKAAF and all Members of the UKAAF User Advisory Group (UAG) are invited to attend the AGM. Non-members are welcome at the afternoon workshops to join in workshops and find out more about the Association. The AGM runs 11am-1pm, with refreshments available from 10.30am; the workshops start at 2pm and finish at 4pm. Please note that only Full Members of the Association are eligible to vote at the AGM, or submit proxy votes, but Members of the User Advisory Group may speak at the AGM. Everyone is welcome to take an active part in the discussions during the afternoon session. The Augustana Centre can be contacted at: The Annual General Meeting of the UK Association for Accessible Formats (UKAAF) will be a mixture of UKAAF formal business and then will offer afternoon discussions and some participatory segments for interested parties. UKAAF is a powerful blend of transcription experience, industry expertise and accessible format users. It was formed in 2009 by the merger of three former industry associations; COTIS (Confederation of Transcribed Information Services), UKABP (UK Association of Braille Producers) and BAUK (the Braille Authority of the UK). Members include individuals and organisations with a vested interest in the provision of quality accessible formats such as transcribers, service providers, educators, researchers, print services, publishers, and end-users.
